Arrangement of Marine Emergency Fire Pump

Cargo ships of more than 2,000 gross tonnage should be equipped with independently driven emergency fire pumps, usually placed in the steering gear room. Passenger ships with a gross tonnage of more than 1000 tons shall be equipped with an emergency fire pump if a fire in any of the compartments may invalidate all fire pumps. The common places where marine emergency fire pumps are installed include the following: engine room (referring to the place where the main fire pump is located), steering engine room, bow cabin, empty cabin under the freeboard deck of the ship, etc.

Working Requirements of Emergency Fire Pump

In ship operation, the total suction head of the pump should not exceed 4.5m under the conditions of longitudinal and heel that may be encountered. The capacity of the pump should ensure that the range of the two jets of water sprayed at the same time is not less than 12m. The pump water volume is not less than 25m3/h. If the driving power is a diesel engine, when the temperature drops to 0℃, it can be started at any time by cranking the crank; when using other starting devices, it should be able to start 6 times within 30 minutes and at least 2 times within the first 10 minutes.

Precautions for Marine Emergency Fire Pump

Access to emergency fire pump.

Direct access is not allowed between the machine premises and the premises where the emergency fire pump and its power source are located. There is an air lock device in the passageway, the door of the machine place is of "A-60" standard, and the other door is at least steel. Both doors are moderately airtight, self-closing and do not have a back hook. As an alternative, the passageway may be provided with a watertight door that can be operated from a location away from the machine premises and the emergency fire pump premises, and the position is not easily cut off in the event of fire in these places. In this case, a second passage shall be provided on the premises where the emergency fire pump and its power source are located. Stairways and escalators, complete and safe, equipped with main lighting and emergency lighting, and effective.

Displacement and suction head of emergency fire pump

The emergency fire pump should have self-priming capacity, with independent undersea valve and sea water tank. The marine emergency fire pump shall still be able to absorb water when the ship is in a light load, so its arrangement shall be able to achieve the total suction head and positive suction head of the emergency fire pump under the conditions of trim, roll, roll and pitch that may be encountered in the operation of the ship, so that the discharge of the emergency fire pump is not less than 40% of the calculated total discharge of the fire pump, and in any case it should not be less than 25 m³/ h.
