Aluminum Alloy Sacrificial Anode

Aluminum Alloy Sacrificial Anode

1. Description

Aluminum alloy sacrificial anodes are a type of cathodic protection system used to protect metal structures from corrosion. They are typically made of a high-purity aluminum alloy, and are designed to corrode preferentially to the metal structure they are protecting.

The principle behind cathodic protection is that when two different metals are in contact with each other in an electrolyte (such as seawater), they form a galvanic cell. The metal with the lower electrode potential (more reactive) becomes the anode and corrodes, while the metal with the higher electrode potential (less reactive) becomes the cathode and is protected from corrosion.
