Marine Boiler

Introduction of Marine Boiler

Definition: A boiler is a device that heats a water working medium by absorbing fuel to release heat or using other heat sources such as waste heat, and outputs steam or hot water at a specified pressure and temperature for ship propulsion or other purposes on board.

Classification: According to the boiler structure, it can be divided into smoke tube boiler, water tube boiler and combined boiler.

Structure

Marine Smoke Tube Boiler

Marine Water Tube Boiler

Marine Combined Boiler

According to the water circulation method, it can be divided into natural circulation boilers and forced circulation boilers.

According to the boiler installation form, it can be divided into vertical boiler, horizontal boiler and D-type boiler.

Installation Form

Marine Vertical Type Boiler

Marine Horizontal Type Boiler

According to the heat source, it can be divided into oil-fired boilers and exhaust gas boilers.

Heat Source

Marine Oil-fired Boiler

Marine Exhaust Gas Boiler

The boiler that supplies steam for the main engine on the steam power plant is called the main boiler. Boilers that provide steam for daily miscellaneous and auxiliary machinery on diesel and gas turbine installations are called auxiliary boilers. A boiler that utilizes the waste heat from the exhaust gas of the main engine is called an exhaust gas boiler.

The Difference Between Marine Boilers and Land Boilers

The difference between marine boilers and land-based boilers is that there are strict restrictions on shape, size and weight:

1.Structurally, the marine boiler should be able to work normally under the navigation conditions such as the ship's sway, tilt and impact.

2.Marine boilers must have a certain volume of soda water storage to meet the needs of frequent and large load changes of steam powered machinery.

3.In order to meet the requirements of small size and high mobility, liquid fuel is generally used in marine boilers.

4.The evaporation capacity of the boiler is 10-160t/h, and the steam parameters are slightly lower than those of the land boilers with the corresponding evaporation capacity.

5.Modern marine main boilers all use curved water tube boilers, most of which are drum-type natural circulation boilers, rarely forced circulation boilers, let alone once-through boilers. Marine auxiliary boilers are generally smoke tube boilers.
