Pressure Differential Controller

Pressure Differential Controller

Introduction:

A pressure differential controller is a device used to control the pressure difference between two points in a system. It is commonly employed in various industrial processes and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems where maintaining a specific pressure differential is critical for efficient operation.

The controller typically consists of a sensor, a control mechanism, and an actuator. The sensor measures the pressure at the two points of interest and sends the information to the control mechanism. The control mechanism compares the measured pressure difference with a predefined setpoint or desired value. If the measured pressure differential deviates from the setpoint, the control mechanism triggers the actuator to adjust the system parameters and bring the pressure difference back to the desired level.

The actuator can take different forms depending on the system requirements. It could be a motorized valve that regulates the flow rate of a fluid or an air damper that controls the airflow. The actuator is responsible for making the necessary adjustments to maintain the desired pressure differential.

Pressure differential controllers are widely used in applications such as cleanrooms, laboratories, manufacturing processes, and HVAC systems. In cleanroom environments, for example, maintaining a specific pressure differential helps prevent contamination by ensuring that air flows from areas with lower contamination levels to areas with higher contamination levels, thus maintaining the required cleanliness standards.
